(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The official of Iraqi refugees in Turkey Union Rose Aziz Karim announced on Monday, that 12 people, including Iraqi refugees, drowned near one of the Italian coasts when they tried to go from Greece to Italy.

Karim said in a statement for IraqiNews.com: “the Italian Coast Guard was able today to save dozens of illegal immigrants after the sinking of their boat,” noting that, “12 people from the people of the Kurdistan region were among the passengers that have drowned.”

He added, “The boat, which was carrying these refugees, started from Greece and headed towards Italy,” explaining that, “the phenomenon of the migration of Iraqis through unofficial means began to rise.”
