(IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, an expert in the United Nations revealed that, the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has received between 35 to 45 million dollars as ransoms paid for hostages throughout the past year.

Justina Lali—in a meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the Security Council, about the terrorist kidnappings carried out for ransom—that, the ISIS group received ransoms estimated at $120 million between 2004 and 2012.

Lali explained that in recent years al-Qaeda and related terrorist groups made kidnappings their “primary means of getting revenues”.

Lali indicated that al-Qaeda received $20 million as ransoms in Yemen between 2011 and 2013, and about $ 75 million in North Africa during the past four years.
