Kerry accuses Iran of taking part in overthrowing Yemeni government

 

(IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, US Secretary of State John Kerry accused Iran of taking part in overthrowing the Yemeni government, saying that Tehran’s support was paramount for the Houthis.

The Egyptian newspaper ‘The 7th Day’ quoted Kerry as saying before the US Congress members, “Iranian support for the Houthis in Yemen contributed to their control over the country and the collapse of the government.”

Kerry added, “Tehran’s support was important for the Houthi militia,” pointing out that, “It seems that the Iranian leaders were surprised by the events in Yemen and are hoping for a national dialogue.”

It is noteworthy that Yemen is experiencing a serious security situation that pushed a number of countries to close their embassies and withdraw their diplomatic crews.
