(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Turkish tanks have rolled across the Syrian border after an area was heavily shelled by ISIS.

Sharing more details military sources informed, “70 ISIS positions in Jarablus have been destroyed by artillery and rocket strikes and 12 by air strikes,” adding, “Turkish special forces entered Syria earlier as part of the offensive.”

“The aim of the operation, code-named Euphrates Shield, is to secure territory along its border with Syria from the ISIS threat,” the sources added.

Turkey has been hitting targets inside Syria for three days following a mortar attack on residential areas in Karkamis, a town on the Turkish side of the border.
