Amendment of PCs Elections Law not identical to decision of Federal Court, says Waeli

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Shirwan al-Waeli, of the State of Law Coalition pointed out “The first reading of the fourth amendment of the Provincial Councils Elections Law is not identical to the decision of the Federal Court.”

He stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “The Federal Court accepted the appeal against this law and stressed endorsing a law by the parliament that respect the will of the Iraqi voter by and to apply the norms of justice to avoid granting the vote for a candidate whom the vote did not elect.”

“The amendment proposal serves the large slates at the expense of the small ones which contradicts the essence of democracy,” he mentioned.

“The remaining time will not serve the Independent High Electoral Commission to adopt a new version of the law if the parliamentary Legal Committee does not speed up the endorsement of the amended law that must conform the vision of the Federal Court within a short period,” he concluded.
