Kurdistan Region President, US General discuss security cooperation

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) President of Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani discussed with the commander of the Central Region of the American forces, Gen. Lloyd Austin and his accompanying delegation, threats of the Islamic State to the region and Iraq in general.

A statement by the Presidency of the Kurdistan region said the meeting, which brought together Barzani and Austin, in the presence of a number of military officials and security in the region, highlighted the situation in the country and the recent developments and the occupation of the city of Mosul and the threats of terrorists to the Kurdistan region.”  The statement said that “the views of the parties were identical, that the organization (IS) is a major threat to the region and the world, and needs to be confronted by the cooperation of all parties, as the two sides stressed the permanent coordination between the American forces and the Peshmerga in the war against terrorists.”

On the political process in Iraq, the two sides stressed the need to form a government that includes all parties and serve the interests of all Iraqi components.  President Barzani also addressed to the humanitarian situation of the displaced and the large numbers who have fled to Kurdistan and their needs, expressing his thanks to the friendly countries for the assistance provided to help them.  Gen. Austin arrived in Baghdad yesterday, and met with Assigned Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi , President of the Republic and the House of Representatives. The American Embassy in Baghdad described the visit of Gen. Austin as confirming security cooperation between the United States and Iraq . /
