Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The independent MP Jawad al-Bazouni confirmed that “The limitation of the three presidencies’ terms is a result of a constitutional gap where the constitution is supposed to limit the three presidencies’ terms by one for each.”

Bazouni stated to Iraqi News “We hoped to limit the term of each presidency by one only for the first four or five years from the start of the new political process in Iraq since the country has transmitted from dictatorial regime into democratic one where the people are not acquainted with the political leaders or the existing political parties.”

“Some MPs believe that the law of limiting the three presidencies’ terms is a reflection of a constitutional gap where it must be filled through passing this law at the parliament,” he added.

Bazouni pointed out that “This issue is controversial so the law will be submitted before the Federal Court which will be the judge to determine its legality.”

The Iraqi Parliament has passed the law of limiting the three presidencies’ terms during Saturday regular session.
