Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Commissioner of the Supreme Human Rights Commission, Bushra al-Obaidi, criticizes the procedures of the government in dealing with the human rights in Iraq.

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “The government does not support any activity done by the Non-Governmental Organizations where it does not have will and political decision in supporting the HR or settling the issues related to it.”

“The government has a great responsibility towards neglecting the HR but it does not even discuss it where the constitutional articles are neglected as well.”

“Many of the Iraqis do not understand what are the HR and that they have rights where they do not also know how to defend their rights,” she concluded.

Earlier, the Human Rights Watch in its World Report 2013 stated “Iraq’s leadership used draconian measures against opposition politicians, detainees, demonstrators, and journalists, effectively squeezing the space for independent civil society and political freedoms in Iraq.”
