Iraqi government figures on victims “unrealistic” – MP
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A Parliamentary Human Rights Commission MP said today that the figures published by the Iraqi government on the number of people who have been killed since 2004 as being “different from the reality.” “If we match the figures announced by the Iraqi government to the number of people that have gone missing since the war, we find great discrepancies,” MP Zuhair al-Araji told IraqiNews.com. “A great number of cases was not registered at the security departments and Ministry of Health, such as victims in the remote villages and military operations,” he pointed out. “All registered were for compensation purposes,” he clarified. Earlier today, it was reported that more than 69,000 Iraqis have been killed between 2004 – 2011.
