Iraq’s President begins term by violating constitution, introduces himself to legal accountability says MP Fatlawi

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) State of Law Coalition MP, Hanan Fatlawi, expressed regret that Iraqi President Fouad Massoum start his presidency in “constitutional violation” by failing to abide by the constitutionally set deadline to assign a candidate for prime minister by 3 PM today, while confirming that Massoum will introduce himself to a legal accountability because of that.

Fatlawi said, in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, that “after three o’clock (today) the constitutionally set deadline will end for the president to assign the Prime Ministerial candidate,” indicating that “This is a serious constitutional violation which requires accounting, and will introduce the president himself to legal accountability.”

Fatlawi added, “We regret that the president began his term by violating the constitution; he is primarily responsible for maintaining the Constitution.”

Iraqi Council of Representatives held on Sunday (10 August 2014) its session headed by Chairman of the Board, Saleem al-Jubouri with the presence of 230 deputies.The Session submitted to 19th August after discussing the formation of parliamentary standing committees and the interim committees on the budget of 2014, without resolving the issue of the prime ministerial candidate.
