IS MPs under pressure for requesting to withdraw confidence from Maliki, says Damlouji

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqiya Slate (IS) announced that, Some MPs who have signed the request to withdraw confidence from the Premier Nouri al-Maliki were subject to pressure and threats to change their stance.

The spokesperson of the Iraqiya Slate Maysoun al-Damlouji said in a statement to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) on Thursday that “The MPs of the Slate who have signed to withdraw confidence from Maliki are subject to many pressures by some of those who are clinging to power,” noting that “A number of IS MPs received telephone messages full of threat and intimidation, but no one of them responded to those messages and to the empty temptations.”

She expressed the surprise of the IS about the “irresponsible statements launched by al-Maliki and his associates which affect the national leaders of the IS coalition and the allied Iraqi blocs,” stressing that “The doubts about signatures and attempts to discredit the patriotic Iraqi leaders is a play and entrenched belief about the faith in the democratic process and deliberation peaceful transfer of power.”

She stressed that “The vote under the dome of the parliament is the judge in any case and for al-Maliki and those around him to respect the national will and the Constitution adopted by the people and the democratic process.”

She asked the Iraqi National Alliance to find an acceptable alternative for Maliki to occupy the position of the Premier to ensure a safe future for our citizens.”
