Kobler condemns Tuz Khurmatu attack
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq (SGSR), Martin Kobler, strongly condemned the recent wave of attacks which have targeted individuals or crowded areas, including in Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu, or elsewhere in the country, killing and injuring dozens.
“I am particularly alarmed that attacks in disputed internal areas further aggravate the tensions there,” Kobler said, urging all Iraqi leaders to “live up to their responsibilities and to work without delay on defusing the situation, and engaging in peaceful dialogue.”
He expressed his profound sympathy to the families of the victims, to whom he extends sincere condolences, and wishes a speedy recovery of those who were injured.
Earlier, 87 civilians were killed and injured, on Wednesday, among them Salah-il-Din Governor Undersecretary, Ahmed Abdul Wahid, and the Secretary General of the Turkmen Front, Ali Hashim, due to suicide bombing in Tuz Khurmatu district.
Security source told Iraqi News on Wednesday “A suicide bomber detonated his explosives amid mourning ceremony in Tuz Khurmatu of eastern Tikrit city resulted in killing (42) persons and injuring (45) others including Salah-il-Din Governor Undersecretary and Secretary General of the Turkmen Front.”
“The ambulances rushed to the incident place and transported the wounded persons to a hospital while the dead bodies were sent to the morgue,” the source added.
“The security forces cordoned off the spot in anticipation of another terrorist attack,” the source concluded.
