Maliki, British delegation discuss upgrading relations

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, received a British delegation headed by the British Minister for Middle-East Affairs on Wednesday.

A statement by Maliki’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited “Maliki received the delegation and expressed his hope to establish firm and strategic relations between the two countries,” noting that “Both sides discussed upgrading relation in addition to the Syrian crisis.”

“Maliki stressed his appreciation for any initiative that enhances the relations between Iraq and the UK,” the statement added, noting that “Maliki also renewed the Iraqi support for reaching peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis,” the statement continued.

“Both sides agreed upon forming a committee tasked to eliminate the impediments that hinder bilateral relations,” the statement mentioned.

“For his part, the British Minister expressed the desire to develop relations and appreciated the clarity of the Iraqi stances and visions,” the statement emphasized.

“He also assured looking for cooperation in security field and exchanging the information in addition to the armament and training programs,” the statement concluded.
