Maliki: Constitution, dialogue to resolve political crises

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki called to resolve the current political crisis through the constitution and dialogue.

In a press conference held jointly with head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, after meeting him, Maliki said “The radical solutions for the crisis need concerted efforts and real intention to address them within the constitutional framework and according to the principles of the fruitful dialogue.”

He continued saying that “The launch of demonstrations and protests is a legitimate right guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution, and the Government has to listen to the demonstrators’ demands if they remain within the law and the constitution, but at the same time the demands should not be exploited by foreign agendas or to be turned into civil disobedience which disturbs the performance of the state departments.”

“Our meeting with Hakim is an extension to previous consensus and meetings to reach strategic understanding and agreement between both of our blocs,” he added.

“There are strategic agreement that will be adopted in the upcoming local elections to support the local governments and achieve security stability,” Maliki concluded.
