MoJ calls women detainees willing to spend their imprisonment in their province to submit requests

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Justice, Hasan al-Shimmari, called the women detainees willing to spend the rest of their imprisonment in their provinces to submit requests to be transferred to the detentions in their provinces.

A statement by the Ministry of Justice received by IraqiNews.com cited “Shimmari called the women detainees who wish to spend the rest of their imprisonment in their provinces to submit requests.”

“Transferring the detainees does not mean releasing them because this needs to abandon the personal right and a special amnesty,” the statement concluded.

Earlier, the Ministry of Justice announced receiving judicial orders to release a number of women detainees.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry, Haider al-Saadi said that “The Reform Department within the Ministry received judicial orders to release 11 women inmates from women prison.”

The judicial orders require that the release process should be accompanied by paying bails.

The decision of releasing women prisoners came after Anbar province witnessed mass demonstrations demanding to release the women detainees.
