MP rejects forming Operations Command with communal affiliation by Kurds

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Fahad Mawlood, of the Hurra Iraqiya Coalition expressed his rejection for forming an Operations Command with communal affiliation by the Kurds.

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “Tigris Operations Command comes under the legal and constitutional course as one of the Armed Forces formations,” noting that “It is tasked to sustain internal and external security according to the constitution.”

“It is unfortunate to see this unjustified escalation over the TOC by the Kurdish sides especially the recent reports over forming Kurdish force under the name of Himreen Operation Command,” he stressed.

“TOC involves elements from all over the Iraqi communities so forming Operation Command by the Kurds with communal background is rejected by the public and the government,” he assured.

“The escalation in this regard will complicate the communal disputes and create tensions,” he continued, calling “The political sides to keep away from the military affairs.”

Earlier, the President of Kurdistan region, Masoud Barzani, said in a statement on last Monday “We will take whatever steps necessary to cancel the Tigris Operations Command as the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, is not bound by the pledges he made to the country’s president.”

He added “We believed from the beginning that the TOC would be a major factor in further destabilizing the province and that it doesn’t serve the article 140 of the Iraqi permanent constitution as it is against the Kurds, democracy process and the spirit of co-existence.”
