MP rules out formation of comprehensive Shiite alliance for upcoming provincial elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Sami al-Askari of the State of Law Coalition ruled out merging all the Shiite political parties and blocs in a single alliance to participate in the upcoming provincial elections.

Askari told IraqiNews.com that “There will be no comprehensive alliance for all the Shiite political blocs to launch the local elections, but rather some Shiite blocs will take part in the elections as separate slates, whereas some others will enter into alliances with other blocs.”

“The SLC tends to converge to other political blocs including Arab and Kurdish ones,” he added stressing that “Part of this openness will be prior to the local elections while other will be post them.”

The SLC heads towards creating a large political alliance for the launch of the local elections and formation of the provincial councils after the elections,” he pointed out.

It is worth to monition that the Iraqi Council of Ministers has specified 20th, April, 2013 a date to launch the next provincial elections.
