Musawi criticizes Barzani’s statements over Tigris Operations Command

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Samira al-Musawi, of the State of Law Coalition criticized the statements of the President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, over the formation of Tigris Operations Command in which he said “The TOC targets the Kurds.”

She stated to IraqiNews.com “Forming TOC is a constitutional right for the Federal Government,” noting that “Barzani’s opinion that TOC targets the Kurds is drastic mistake, which could not be accepted.”

“Kurdistani Regional Government blames the Federal Government for not protecting the citizens’ lives in the borders areas in KR while KRG hinders any step to be taken by the FG to empower the Federal Armed Forces,” she added.

“How Pishmirga forces are deployed outside KR while KRG rejects forming TOC to sustain security in the destabilized areas outside KR?” she questioned.

“It is unacceptable that KRG rejects any armament contracts because they think it targets the Kurds,” she mentioned.

“KRG must reconsider its stances on the basis of the constitution,” she concluded.

Earlier, the President of Kurdistan region, Masoud Barzani, said in a statement on last Monday “We will take whatever steps necessary to cancel the Tigris Operations Command as the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, is not bound by the pledges he made to the country’s president.”

He added “We believed from the beginning that the TOC would be a major factor in further destabilizing the province and that it doesn’t serve the article 140 of the Iraqi permanent constitution as it is against the Kurds, democracy process and the spirit of co-existence.”
