Mutleg, Nijaifi discuss holding urgent parliament session over demonstrations

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Deputy Premier, Salih al-Mutleg, and the Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, discussed holding an urgent session for the parliament on the background of the demonstrations and protests in some provinces.

A statement by Mutleg’s office received by IraqiNews.com “Mutleg received Nijaifi as they discussed the political updates,” noting that “Both sides agreed upon calling the Iraqiya Slate to hold a meeting to discuss the issue of holding the parliament session over the current protests.”

“Both sides’ views were identical concerning the demonstrators’ demands and stressed responding to these legitimate demands and calling the political blocs within the Parliament and the Government to work for accomplishing them,” the statement added.

“Nijaifi congratulated Mutleg for his survival from the assassination attempt that he underwent recently,” the statement concluded.

Earlier, the Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, called to hold an urgent session to discuss the political crisis two days before the scheduled date for resuming parliament sessions.

A statement by the media office of the Parliament cited “Nijaifi called to hold an exceptional session on next Sunday morning to discuss the current crisis.”
