Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Osama al-Nijaifi, discussed with the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Martin Kobler, the recent developments on the political arena in Iraq.
A statement by the media office of the Parliament cited on Thursday “Nijaifi, during receiving Kobler in Baghdad pointed out that the accumulated problems and the bad general services, besides the continuous violations on the human rights prompted many cities in Iraq to demonstrate.”
“The Speaker expressed his hope that the United Nations could play active role in resolving the current political crisis,” the statement added.
“For his part, Kobler expressed the United Nations concerns over the continuity of the crisis in Iraq, calling the Iraqi Government not to use force against the demonstrators and try to consider their demands peacefully,” it continued.
UN’s Special Representative for Iraq confirmed that “It is the right of the people to protest and ask for services on condition of being within the legal and peaceful framework.”
