Saudi Arabia to open consulate in Erbil

(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, the presidency of the Kurdistan Region announced, that Saudi Arabia is preparing to open a consulate in Erbil, emphasizing that the president of the province is ready to develop relations between the region and Saudi Arabia.

The presidency of the region said in a statement, received by IraqiNews.com, “The Kurdistan Region President, Massoud Barzani met today with a delegation from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, headed by Abdul Rahman Ben Ghirman,” indicating that, “The delegation’s visit aimed at opening the Consulate of Saudi Arabia in Erbil.”

The presidency added, “The Saudi delegation expressed satisfaction at the developments in the Kurdistan region in the past years, and praised the role of the Peshmerga forces in the war against terrorists. It also offered its condolences to the martyrs of the Peshmerga.”

For his part, Barzani confirmed that the Kurdistan region is “ready for the development of relations between the two sides”, at the same time he expressed his thanks for Majesty the King of Saudi Arabia, and wished success to the Saudi consul, who will be appointed in his work in Erbil, according to the statement.
