Scholars of Iraq Group warns of new conflict in Iraq if protests moved to Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Scholars of Iraq Group warned from moving the Anbar demonstrations to Adhamiya neighborhood in central Baghdad as this step would change things and transfer the country into another phase of conflict.

SIG cited according to a statement received by IraqiNews.com “We are highly concerned about the call to hold unified prayer in Baghdad on next Friday at Abu Hanifa al-Numan mosque in Adhamiya since it will bring about problems and lead to a new phase of conflict in Iraq.”

“We support holding unified prayer in any part of Iraq as it stands for unity, fraternity and solidarity, but choosing this particular timing may create sectarian problems,” the statement added.
