SLC MP criticizes weak performance of Parliament

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The State of Law Coalition’s MP Ihsan al-Awadi pointed out that “The chairmanship of the Parliament is weak because the legislative establishments of the Council have been completed yet through absence of advisors and specialized experts in drafting laws.”

Speaking to Iraqi News, he said Tuesday “The Parliament is very important part of the democratic process but it lacks the administrative body related to advisors and legal experts which weaken its role.”

He noted that “The legislative establishment should be accomplished first before blaming the government,” stressing that “This point is the reason for the dispute between the government and the parliament.”

Concerning the calls for limiting the terms of the three presidencies, MP Awadi said “The constitution limited the terms of the President by two terms only but did not limit the terms of the Premier or the Speaker.”

He mentioned that “Even if the blocs agreed to limit the terms of the three presidencies, it requires a constitutional amendment to do so.”

“The political process suffers from accumulated disputes, and I think limiting the terms of three presidencies is not the core of conflict,” he concluded.
