Statement: Nijaifi, Rouhani discuss regional updates

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, discussed with the Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, the regional updates.

A statement by Nijaifi’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited “The two sides discussed the mutual relations and the means of promoting them to achieve the interests of the people of the two countries,” noting that “They have also discussed the ongoing Syrian crisis and the consequences on Iran and Iraq on particular where they stressed the necessity of increasing the efforts to reduce the sectarian conflict.”

“Nijaifi assured that the Syrian military forces and the extremists committed many crimes where the international community has to interfere to hold a dialogue between the two sides and achieve a peaceful settlement to stop shedding the blood,” the statement added.

“Nijaifi added that the main points of the Iraqi initiative are for the peaceful settlement where all related sides such as Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia must meet for this purpose,” the statement concluded.
