Suhail, UNDP discuss forming National Council of Water

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The First Deputy Speaker, Qusai al-Suhail, discussed with the United Nations development Programme (UNDP) forming the National Council of Water.

A statement by Suhail’s office received by IraqiNews.com on Wednesday cited “Suhail received a delegation from the UNDP headed by the Regional Head of the Programme, Peter Bajlor, where the two sides reviewed the problems that Iraq faces in the water field the means of establishing the National Council for Water that will be responsible for guiding and providing the strategic advice to the Iraqi government.”

The statement added “The two sides discussed the possibility of establishing a joint workshop presents the experiences of the developed countries in addition to the support of the UNDP can provide to the process of approving the law.”

“Suhail stressed the need of the support of the UN Development Program for Iraq to address the water problem and identify needs and priorities to set the mechanisms of setting a common understanding to deal with different issues,” the statement pointed out.

“For its part, the delegation expressed its readiness to cooperate with the parliament and provide all kinds of support to endorse this law draft,” the statement concluded.
