Talabani not authorized to assess constitutionality of forming Dijla OC, says MP

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Mohammed al-Sayhoud of the State of Law Coalition criticized the remarks of the Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani over the constitutionality of forming Dijla Operations Command.

Sayhoud said that “It is not the right of the President to talk about the constitutionality of the formation of Dijla OC since he is supposed to apply the Constitution only.”

“The President is an executive authority who carries out what is approved by the Federal Court,” he added, pointing out “If there is any problematic issue about forming Dijla OC, Talabani should address the Federal Court to consider this issue.”

During a meeting held by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on last Wednesday, Talabani described the formation of Dijla OC as “illegal and unconstitutional act where it represents a motive to deepen the current crisis.”
