(IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Nikolay Mladenov suggested two solutions to help Iraq get out of its current crisis – the formation of a government of technocrats or a government that does not exclude any segment of Iraqi society.

Mladenov said that “the next Iraqi prime minister needs to build an agreement among the largest number of members of parliament to gain a vote of confidence and there are two ways to do so, one of them is forming a government of technocrats, and there is another way – getting a majority based on the representation of the different segments of Iraqi society; I think that is the key to the future.”

The United Nations Special Representative indicated that this step may not end the current crisis in Iraq, but “we need further steps to build a wider popular base if we want to lead the country to overcome the current crisis.”
