Zebari receives Turkish, German Ambassadors to Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, received on August 27, 2014 the Turkish Ambassador in Iraq, Farouk Qaimagji.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Alforat News Agency cited “During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and the political developments taking place in Iraq to form a new government within the constitutional timings, and the growing international support against the terrorist Islamic State in Iraq and Syria ISIS.”

“The Minister appreciated Turkey’s efforts to support Iraq within the NATO and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,” the statement continued.

“He also congratulated the Turkish Ambassador for the election of, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as President of the Turkish Republic, and selecting, Ahmed Davoud Ihsan Oglu, as Prime Minister, confirming Iraq’s participation with high-level delegation in the inauguration ceremony,” the statement added.

“The two sides also discussed the mechanism for providing humanitarian aid through international organizations for the displaced in the northern provinces,” the statement mentioned.

Zebari also met British Minister of State for Middle East Affairs, Tobias Elwood, in the presence of the British Ambassador in Baghdad Simon Collis.

According to the Ministry statement “Minister Zebari welcomed the British delegation, saying that the visit represents the British government’s support for the Iraqi people in their confrontation to terrorism and the support of efforts to achieve a peaceful democratic transition of power.”

“The two sides discussed the humanitarian and technical assistance to support the efforts to counter the Islamic State’s terrorism and what the IS represents of Deviants and extremists. They also discussed the need to work on the formation of an international coalition to address the phenomenon of terrorism, which became a cross-border phenomenon,” the statement said.

“The British Minister stressed the Kingdom’s keenness to exert more efforts to combat the threat of the terrorist groups and what they pose on the security of the United Kingdom in particular and the world in general,” the statement concluded. /End/
