Abtan: Closing borders with Syria not to affect Iraq\

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Member of the Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee, MP Abdul Hussein Abtan, underestimated the economic bad consequences that might result from closing the border crossings with Syria on Iraq’s economy.

Abtan stated to IraqiNews.com “Supporting the agricultural sector in Iraq will meet the country’s needs of vegetables and fruit to dispense the imports of those food materials from the neighboring countries,” referring that “The lack of governmental support to the agriculture sector caused great problem in respect to Iraq’s self-sufficiency of agrarian crops.”

He added that “The closure of the border ports with Syria caused a problem for Iraq in terms of importing fruit and vegetables across Syria,” noting that “Iraq is a rich country and can import the vegetables and fruit from any neighboring country such as Turkey, Iran or Kuwait.”
