Elewi attributes agricultural crops shortage to water scarcity

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Member of the Agricultural Parliamentary Committee, Kareem Allawi, attributed the shortage of the agricultural crops to water scarcity.

Elewi mentioned in statement received by IraqiNews.com ”Iraq suffers of great water shortage, especially in this year which coincided with the irrigation needs for agricultural crops since many farmers complained about water scarcity,” noting that “Elewi demanded to adopt new techniques in lands irrigation to ensure the continuation of farming.”

The statement added ”Many provinces do not have enough water to irrigate the agricultural crops and this shortage is considered a negative indicator that harms the agriculture in Iraq.”

Many farmers of several provinces demanded to provide water for irrigation purposes while the Minister of water Resources announced that the Ministry will provide the water shares for each province covered with the winter agricultural plan. \
