(IraqiNew.com) Baghdad – The President of the Republic Fuad Masum stressed on Sunday the importance of reducing the imports of oil and strengthening Iraq’s position as a major producer, while Oil Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi pointed out that Iraq has increased its production of oil, nearly three million and 800 thousand barrels.

Iraqi presidency said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, ” Today, Fuad Masum has received at the Peace Palace in Baghdad Oil Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi and discussed with him the political and economic situation and ways to develop the oil industry and the protection of Iraq’s position between oil-exporting members of (OPEC), as well as the improvement of the current production lines and the further implementation of the oil agreement between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government. ”

“The two sides also discussed the developments of oil prices on the global level and its impact on the course of implementation of the general budget and developments in the national reconciliation project, in addition to the displaced file and ways to bring them back to their home areas after its liberation from ISIS control,” The statement added.

Masum stressed, “the importance of reducing the import rates of petroleum products from abroad and strengthen Iraq’s position at the international level as a major producer.”

For his part, Abdul-Mahdi confirmed that ” Iraq has made significant productivity increase recently,” explaining that “the total daily production amounted to about three million and 800 thousand barrels, compared with about three million and 695 thousand barrels in the month of May.”
