Barzani: Baghdad doesn’t have sufficient funds for Kurdistan’s share, we’re committed to oil convention

(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani announced, that the current Iraqi government does not have sufficient funds to implement the oil agreement due to the effect of oil prices drop on Iraq’s economy, pointing out that Baghdad and Kurdistan are committed to it and there are no conflicts between the two sides.

Barzani said during a press conference after his meeting with PM Haider al-Abadi in Baghdad, attended by IraqiNew.com, “The process of exporting oil has been clarified to the officials; they acknowledged that the region is committed to the agreement signed between the two sides,” noting that, “The Iraqi government does not have the sufficient funds to pay to Kurdistan because Iraq is currently suffering from an economic crisis due to global oil prices drop.”

Barzani added, “Kurdistan and Baghdad are committed to the oil convention between them and there are no conflicts,” explaining that, “The region is committed to the export of 550 000 barrels of oil, according to the agreement signed.”

PM Haider al-Abadi’s office announced Sunday that the delegation of the center and the region had held a meeting under the chairmanship of Abadi and president of Kurdistan Nechirvan Barzani to discuss the recent oil agreement between Baghdad and Erbil.

The Kurdish negotiating team headed by Barzani arrived in Baghdad on Sunday to meet with the central government officials and discuss the issue of the oil exports and a number of other leading issues.
