Celebrities, activists, expatriates apply to be Iraq’s next President

nnBaghdad (IraqiNews.com) Well-informed sources from inside the Parliament confirmed that dozens of celebrities, civil society activists and people outside of Iraq submitted their resumes to run for the post of presidency, when the Parliament Speaker, Salim Jabouri allowed for all citizens to apply for candidacy for three days.

The sources who preferred not to be named said that “submissions are increasing and there are some figures outside Iraq who applied by sending their resumes to apply as candidates for the post of presidency,” noting that “these steps are routine and that the position is settled for a particular component and even for a certain personality.”

The sources added that “it is likely to put the name of Barham Salih, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in addition to Fuad Masum, but Salih is the front-runner. ”

On Tuesday, the head of the new parliament, MP Salim Jabour, announced opening the door to run for the presidency in front of all citizens starting from Wednesday, with the adjournment of parliament on Wednesday of next week to choose a president of the Republic of Iraq.
