 Customs police foils attempt to enter smuggled currency into Iraq via Basra

(IraqiNews.com) Basra – A source in the Customs Police Directorate announced on Thursday, that the latter had foiled an attempt to smuggle funds from Kuwait to Iraq through Safwan border port, located in the province of Basra, and arrested the Kuwaiti truck driver.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com: “The Customs Police Directorate in the southern region seized, in the port Safwan border between Iraq and Kuwait, about half a million dollars, in addition to Iraqi funds were hidden inside the Kuwaiti truck,” noting that, “the force arrested the truck driver, which was carrying contraband money; he is a Sudanese citizen. ”

The source, who asked to remain anonymous, added: “an investigation has been opened to determine the source of these funds and its destination inside Iraq,” indicating that “foiling the attempt to smuggle the money was a result of the strict inspection of inbound trucks.”
