Kurdistan Parliament authorizes Territory Government to sell its oil

(IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, The Deputy Chairman of the Energy Committee in Kurdistan Parliament, Dilshad Shaaban revealed that the parliament officially recommended the delegation of the Kurdistan negotiating with Baghdad to demand the share of the region amounted to 17% of the general budget, stressing that the Parliament authorized the Government of the region to sell oil if the parties did not reach a “final solution”.

Shaaban said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “The Kurdistan Regional Parliament issued a recommendation to the Kurdish delegation negotiator with Baghdad on the budget of the Kurdistan region, that includes emphasis on Baghdad’s obligation to pay dues to the region from the budget, amounting to 17%.” He also pointed out that, “The Parliament authorized Government of the Territory to sell oil in the event of failure to reach a final solution with Baghdad to provide financial dues.”

Shaaban added , “The Kurdistan Regional Government can sell its oil, according to Law No. 5 of 2013, the act to identify and obtain financial benefits for the Kurdistan region of Iraq from the federal ministries,” elaborating that, “the Parliament of the Kurdistan region demanded the government to submit a draft of the law of Kurdistan firm for the marketing of oil to the parliament the region on Wednesday.”
