Ministry: Refugee families reach 94.000 across Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The number if Iraqi families admitted in refugee camps has stood at more than 94.000 sheltered in 177 across the country, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement said Thursday.

In a written statement on Thursday, Falah al-Hadi, a director at the ministry’s camps coordination department, said 94.217 families have fled homes over the past two years since Islamic State militants proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” at large areas of the country. He did not give a definite number of individual refugees, but the United Nations estimates that there are at least 3 million internally-displaced people in Iraq. Most of those families, according to al-Hadi, are sheltered at camps in Anbar, Duhok and Erbil.

The UN is concerned over the fate of more than one million persons in Mosul as battles rage on between Islamic State militants and Iraqi troops seeking to drive the group out since October.

Many at refugee camps are reportedly grappling with medicine and food shortages
