MP calls Iraqi Government to address water scarcity

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Karim Elewi, member of the Parliamentary Agriculture & Waters sector expected the escalation of the water scarcity in Iraq during the upcoming phase, calling the Iraqi Government and the Parliament to allocate additional sums from 2013 federal budget to the agriculture and waters sectors.

Elewi said “Turkey blocked many water resources flowing into Iraqi territories due to political disputes between the both countries.”

“The Iraqi Government has a reserve of water but it is not enough where we expect the coming years to witness global water blockade and scarcity that may affect Iraq and the neighborhood countries,” he concluded.
