National Guards forces pose greater threat than terrorism, says Kurdish official
(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, a Kurdish official warned, that forming the National Guards forces will pose greater threat than terrorism, asserting that there is no legal justification to form such forces.
The member of the Kurdistan Parliament, Tarek Gawhar, stated today, “There is no constitutional or legal justification to support forming such forces since the protection of the governorates is the responsibility of the government forces,” noting that, “Iraq’s constitution mentioned that the formation of security forces is the job of the federal government.”
Gawhar has warned that such local forces would be used in conflicts between the provinces in the future, pointing out that, the armed forces in general should work within the Army and have no allegiance to any group.
