Parliamentary culture committee opposes contracting with Rotana

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Media and Culture Parliamentary Committee revealed that the negotiations between the Ministry of Culture and the media group of Rotana reached agreement about paying USD 100,000 to Rotana in order to organize the events of the Festival of Baghdad the Capital of Arab Culture, but, the agreement is not concluded yet.”

“This huge amount of money is too much and will negatively affect the Iraqi culture field,” he added.

The chairman of the committee, Ali al-Shalah, stated to IraqiNews.com on Tuesday ”The parliamentary committee opposes concluding the contract since the funds are so exaggerated,” stressing that ”The Iraqi firms can accomplish the task which assumed is granted to Rotana.”

”If the main obstacle is the technical devices used by Rotana, the Ministry of Culture can buy these devices with much lower cost,” he mentioned.

Shalah pointed out ”The fund about which the Ministry of Culture is negotiating with Rotana can be used to support the Iraqi culture events.” \
