Peshmerga prevents Arabs from returning to disputed areas, HRW says

(IraqiNews.com) Human Rights Watch stated that the Kurdish Peshmerga forces had prevented some displaced Arabs from returning to the disputed areas, and pointed out that a number of “obvious discriminatory acts” were reported in those areas.

The organization said in a report,” The Kurdish Peshmerga forces prevented some displaced Arabs to return to their homes in Nineveh, while allowed the Kurds to return,” and warned that the Kurdistan Regional Government would impose collective punishments on the Arab groups because of acts of violence committed ISIS.

Human Rights Watch added, “Some Kurdish officials defended their discriminatory actions by saying that the Arab Sunni population in the region had supported the armed attack and is still cooperating with ISIS.”
