URGENT: USA to build a military airport in Kurdistan Region

Erbil (IraqiNews.com) The Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Regional Government said that the United States intends to build a military airport in the Kurdistan region, which indicates Washington’s intention to support the government of the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the intensification of military efforts to confront the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan region, Halgord Hikmat said “the 130 American advisers who arrived in Erbil during the past few days, went to the Sinjar mountain range to assist in the evacuation of displaced people trapped in the mountain, and prepared at the same time a detailed study of the region.”

Hikmat added “These advisers provided Peshmerga forces with advice and military planning in the fight against the armed groups and did not directly participate in any military operation – only planning and military counseling. After they completed their studies of Mount Sinjar, the American advisers decided to build a military airport in Erbil in cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Iraqi government and the United States.”

The military airport will belong to Iraq and not become an American military base.
