Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Twelve Islamic State militants were killed on Tuesday as US-led fighter jets bombed their locations in Anbar’s western town of Rawa, a military official said.

The ISIS haven was targeted after reconnaissance missions, commander of the army’s al-Jazeera Operations, Qassem al-Mohammadi, was quoted as saying by Alghad Press.

The towns of Annah and Rawa are ISIS’s last major strongholds in Anbar, and Iraqi air forces, backed by international coalition jets, have been targeting the group’s location at those areas where they used to launch attacks on security and civilians.

Iraqi security and tribal forces are still preparing for a major operation to liberate Anbar’s towns which the extremist group occupied along with other areas of the country in 2014.

ISIS is currently fighting oto defend its last major stronghold in Iraq, Mosul, where Iraqi security forces and US fighter jets have been in a wide-scale campaign since October to retake the city.
