25 killed, wounded in mortar shell attack and tank explosion in Samarra

(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, a security source in Salahuddin province announced that 25 people, including security personnel, were killed in mortar shell attacks followed by the explosion of a booby-trapped tank north of Samarra.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “ISIS fired dozens of mortar shells into Mkeshifah area north of Samarra (40 km south of Tikrit), which resulted in the injury of 7 civilians. The attack was followed by the explosion of booby-trapped tank, led by a suicide bomber targeted a checkpoint of security forces in the same area; it resulted in killing at least 10 and wounding 8.”

The source, who asked not to be named, said, “Security force cordoned off the scene, while ambulances rushed to transport the wounded to a nearby hospital and the bodies of the dead to the Forensic Medicine Department.”
