 Over 5,500 displaced persons from al-Sharqat, says Salahuddin Governor

(IraqiNews.com) Salahuddin – The Governor of Salahuddin Ahmed al-Jubouri announced on Monday, that the number of displaced persons from al-Sharqat north of Tikrit have reached over 5,500 and he further called upon the central government and the international community and international organizations to contribute support to the displaced families.

Jubouri, in a statement, said, “The number of citizens who have been displaced from Sharqat and its surrounding areas have exceeded 5,500,” adding, “The local government is unable to absorb such large numbers.”

Jubouri added, “The Iraqi tribes escorted the displaced people fleeing from the district due to the military operations in the areas. Sharqat is the last region at Salahuddin, which is still under ISIS control.”
