(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Iraqi joint forces have killed 955 Islamic State militants and arrested 108 others in operations south of Nineveh, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

Ministry spokesperson Saad Maan said in a press conference vin Qayyara, Nineveh, that Iraqi air forces have killed 545 militants at the southern axis of operations.

“International coalition forces have killed 352 group elements on the southern axis,” Maan stated.

In the same conference, spokesperson of the US-led international coalition against ISIS, John C. Dorian, said coalition air forces had pounded ISIS locations with more than 4000 bombs since operations kicked off in mid October. The strikes destroyed 59 booby-trapped vehicles and 80 underground tunnels, he revealed.

The Iraqi government and the international coalition had set off operations to recapture the city of Mosul, ISIS’s last stronghold in Iraq, in mid October. The group has reportedly sustained serious defeats in lives and equipment.
