Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) A security source in Kirkuk Province revealed, that six fighters of the Islamic State were killed in an air strike carried out by the international coalition air force in western the province, Alsumaria News reported on Friday.

The source told Alsumaria, “The international coalition air force conducted an air strike, at noon today, on a convoy belonging to the Islamic State near Sheikh Mazhar al-Asi village in Riyad area, in western Kirkuk.”

“The air strike resulted in the killing of six members of the terrorist group,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

“The air strike also resulted in the destruction of a vehicle,” the source explained. “The Islamic State in deploying vehicles as mobile detachments to prevent displaced residents from leaving the province,” the source further added.

Several areas of Kirkuk are held by the Islamic State, including Hawija district and the areas of Riyad, Abbasi and Zab, after capturing the city of Mosul in Nineveh in June 10, 2014.
