Baathist detained in Diala

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: Policemen arrested on Friday a senior leader of what is called the al-Awda (return) party of the dissolved Baath party, during a crackdown operation in Baaquba, Diala police chief said. “Police forces raided the headquarters of the al-Awda (return) party in Baaquba after receiving intelligence information on the presence of the members of the party inside the headquarters,” General Abdulhussein al-Shemri told IraqiNews.com news agency. Iraq’s al-Awda party first emerged in the weeks following the demise of Saddam Hussein’s Baathist regime in 2003. Al-Awda means “the return” in Arabic, in this case the “return” of the Baathists. Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SH (P) 2
