Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A drone killed four Islamic State members on Wednesday as U.S.-backed Iraqi government forces and allied militias continue their push to clear the region from the extremist group.

A source told Alsumaria News that four members of IS were killed when they parked their armored vehicle near an intersection in Wadi Akab region.

Islamic State and Iraqi forces have exchanged drone attacks over the weeks that followed the recapture of the eastern region by government troops late January, leaving several deaths on both sides as well as among civilians.

Military commanders from the Iraqi forces and the allied U.S.-led international military coalition have said IS resistance was remarkable weakening in the west compared to the eastern side. Government forces became closer Tuesday to a government complex in central Mosul, having retaken the city’s airport, a major military base, a vital bridge linking both sides of the city and a handful of districts in the southwest.

The Federal Police command said recently that more than 900 IS fighters died in encounters with security forces since the launch of operations at the west.

The battles in western Mosul have so far forced 26.000 civilians to flee homes to refugee camps, according to Iraqi government counts.
