Fierce battle between Iraqi forces and ISIS militants in Biji
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, the head of the special units in Salahuddin police, Col. Ziyad al-Lahiby, said that a fierce battle between security forces and ISIS elements is currently occurring in Biji.
Al-Lahiby stated today in a press conference attended by IraqiNews, “The ISIS group elements have begun an extensive offensive operation on Biji city from the eastern and southern corners, seeking to retake the city again.”
“Security forces are battling ISIS militants who are advancing into the city, using light weapons as well as heavy Abrams tanks, armored vehicles and Humvees, which the group had seized from the Iraqi Army,” he said, and then added, “Iraqi Air Force and the coalition’s warplanes are offering support to the security elements poisoned on top of the buildings.”
