(IraqiNews.com) BAGHDAD – US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced on Wednesday that France will send aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the Middle East for carrying out airstrikes against ISIS.

“The US-led air raid is aimed at destroying ISIS holds in Syria and Iraq for protecting Western countries from its possible attacks,” Carter said at a press conference after a meeting with the defense ministers of the states who are participating at the Defense Ministers’ Conference of the International Coalition, which is being organized in Washington.

“The meeting discussed on plans to defeat ISIS. The air raid has three goals, which are to destroy ISIS holds completely in Syria and Iraq, to target it anywhere and protect our lands from their attacks,” Carter further added.

“We have taken the battle to the enemy and we will not rest until eliminating it completely. And for ground battles, our partners have everything that one may require to defeat the organization.”

The Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi arrived Tuesday (July 19, 2016) to the United States to attend a Defense Ministers’ Conference of the International Coalition to fight the Islamic State.”
